Sex Ed

Orinda is a city where predominately white, upper middle class families come to raise their children. As mayor of Orinda, population 18,000, I would invest a great deal in sex education. I want to help organize extensive and affordable programs and therapy for children, teens and adults. Sex education includes but is not limited to sexual orientation, gender, health, relationships, domestic violence, rape, incest, harassment, assault, sexual dysfunction, pleasure, pornography, mass communication, patriarchy, anatomy, biology, physiology, psychology, race, class, religion, etc.

My goal is to significantly deflate sex as taboo. America at large is a shame-based sex-obsessed society. Children are receiving mixed messages from the media, not including what goes on at home or in religious spaces. Young girls are starting to menstruate as early as 8 and 9 years old.

If we create a community where people can talk freely about sex and we have a better understanding of sex in the modem world and its history, we can notably reduce guilt, repression, teen pregnancy, harassment, and violence.

Sex is not a big part of our lives. It is our lives, our bodies. Sex is so much more than the act. We can chose to stay silent and shamed or we can speak out and change how we treat ourselves and others.
